Dr. Nick Crawford
FOUNDER / PRESIDENT
Dr. Nick Crawford is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, director of orthopedic sports medicine and associate program director with the University of Hawaii School of Medicine department of orthopedic surgery. Originally, from Reno/Lake Tahoe area but relocated here on Oahu in 2005. After his college football career at University of Nevada, Reno, he went on to medical school in Reno, Nevada eventually ending up in Hawaii hitched to a beautiful local Hawaii family. After completing a sports medicine fellowship at Taos Orthopaedic Institute in Taos, New Mexico and traveling fellowship in Hip Arthroscopy in Colorado, New York, Illinois and Tennessee, he returned to Honolulu in 2012 to join Straub Medical Center. Soon into his career he became the lead orthopedic doctor with the University of Hawaii Football team and has been loving that part of his job ever since. He started the HOPE sports not-for-profit educational foundation which promotes education to protect athletes and also provides scholarships.
He is board certified and fellowship trained in sports medicine, arthroscopy and hip preservation surgery. He is also affiliated with the US Ski and Snowboard team hoping to win Olympic gold. Career interests include sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery and eventually would love to represent the USA at the Olympic games. He completed a separate fellowship in hip arthroscopy surgery. Performs advanced open and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, hip and knee. Areas of research include ACL reconstruction, hip arthroscopy and shoulder labrum/rotator cuff injuries currently.
Nicole Crawford
Nicole Crawford serves as vice president of the HOPE Sports non-profit educational foundation, where she helps support the organization’s mission to protect athletes through education, community outreach, and scholarship opportunities.
Born and raised in Kāneʻohe, Nicole is a proud local girl with deep roots in her community. She is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and went on to attend the University of Portland, where she majored in biology. She later earned her Master of Public Health degree, bringing a strong foundation in health education, prevention, and community wellness to her work with HOPE Sports.
Nicole is also a devoted stay-at-home mom raising three daughters. She is heavily involved in her church community and has danced hula her entire life, remaining deeply connected through keiki hula and the hālau she grew up in. While hula has always been one of her lifelong passions, her love for sports has grown through her life with Nick and their three daughters, who share a strong passion for athletics.
Her commitment to family, faith, culture, health, and service reflects the heart of HOPE and its dedication to helping young athletes and families thrive both on and off the field.
Dr. Jennifer King
Dr. Jennifer King completed her pediatric residency at Cooper University Hospital in New Jersey and her sports medicine fellowship at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. During her fellowship, she provided medical coverage for Rutgers University, Georgian Court University, and Holmdel High School, as well as coverage for the Olympic Development Program for Soccer and Little League Baseball. She has a special interest in Dance and Performance Medicine, injury prevention, and the female athlete. She has been practicing in Hawaii since 2008.
Her professional interests include sports medicine, concussions, headaches and knee injuries. She is a member of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine; Fellow, American Academy of Pediatrics; Council for Sports Medicine and Fitness; International Association of Dance Medicine and Science.
Ralph Goto
Ralph Goto is the retired Administrator of the Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services Division, Department of Emergency Services, City and County of Honolulu.
Having served in this capacity for 32 years, he was responsible for the overall operation, administration and development of the year-round, professional ocean lifeguard service for the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. The division employs a full-time staff of over 200 water safety officers and 25 part-time, hourly lifeguards who provide prevention and rescue services at Oahu’s most popular and high-risk beaches. The division’s annual operating budget from the City and County of Honolulu was approximately $10 million (US).
A graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Goto was employed by the City & County of Honolulu from 1981 – 2013, and served as the primary ocean safety resource for legislative, community, and governmental matters in the State of Hawaii. He continues to serve on numerous boards, committees, and coalitions in Honolulu, and as an advisor to the Board of Directors of the Hawaiian Lifeguard Association. (HLA). He is the current Advisor to the President of the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA), serves as Chair of the Signage Standards subcommittee, and as a Regional Certification Officer for the national organization.
A Life Member of the USLA, Goto was awarded the 2012 Paragon Award for Water Safety at the International Swimming Hall of Fame, in 2013 was named the Quiksilver Eddie Aikau Waterman of the Year, and was inducted into the Hawaii Swimming Hall of Fame in 2015.
Claire Tong
Hawaii Pacific Health has named Claire Tong as its new vice president of marketing and communications. Tong was previously HPH’s director of marketing.
A graduate of Moanalua High School, Tong’s interest in health care led her to major in biology and chemistry at the University of Hawaii and then at the University of Washington, where she graduated. She also earned a degree in accounting from Hawaii Pacific University.
Combining her knowledge in health care and business, she joined Straub Benioff Medical Center in 1997 as a marketing coordinator. She helped to lead the medical center’s marketing plans, public relations, video production and more. Her role continued to expand when Straub Benioff merged with Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, Pali Momi Medical Center and Wilcox Medical Center to create Hawaii Pacific Health in 2001. and strategic in equal measure, our marketing director brings fresh ideas to every campaign. They turn insights into action and help our message resonate with the right audience.
